National Library Board

The Board manages a system of public libraries with a total of 4.7 million items. Particularly comprehensive is the collection on Singapore and Southeast Asia, including many different types of materials. A valuable resource is the Tan Yeok Seong Collection on Chinese trading and history in SEA.

Chinese Library, National University of Singapore

The Library houses materials in Chinese only, mainly on Chinese studies, with recent additions on Chinese law, business administration and management. It has an extensive collection of Chinese materials on Southeast Asia, a sizeable portion of which consists of local newspapers published in the 19th century, and books on the fine arts and the Chinese in SEA. The collection was recently extended to include materials on the Chinese overseas worldwide. Scoped bibliographic information on the Chinese overseas is available on the university library system.

Institute of Southeast Asian Studies Library

Set up in 1968 the Library serves as the resource centre for the Institute’s research community and projects. It has an excellent collection of Southeast Asian materials on the applied social sciences, dating from the 19th century, in the region’s languages, other Asian and European languages, and English, available in both print and multimedia formats. Its collection on ethnic Chinese in the region comprises mainly contemporary and archival materials.
