ISEAS Library was set up in 1968 when the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies (ISEAS), Singapore, was established. The cornerstone of the Institute's research programmes, and the heart of its research process, ISEAS Library has the distinguished reputation of being a de facto library-based regional resource centre. It houses an excellent collection of Southeast Asian materials on the applied social sciences dating from the nineteenth century in the region's languages, in some Asian and European languages, as well as English, in print and multimedia formats.
Its collection on the ethnic Chinese comprises an array of contemporary and archival materials which include the private papers of the illustrious leader of the Malayan Chinese political and independence movement, Tun Dato' Sir Tan Cheng Lock.
